That is the 1st time I have a portraiture session with a child, where the whole album is mainly for a little girl, Mei Mei, who is daughter of my friend, Vivian’s colleague. I was so excited and start planning on how to have a photo shooting with the little cutie…as per the idea that Min (Mei Mei’s mother) wish to have an album for her 6 years old daughter to catch the childhood memory, and preferable go for out door shooting, so the location has set to Penang Youth Park as there has the playing ground which is suit for the children. Early in the morning to wake up, after picking Vivian and then we direct to Youth Park, at the mean time, Min and her family were just reaching the car park, and we meet up together and had breakfast prepared by Min and her husband. It was looked like a family day for them and all the family members was came out together and bringing children to have breakfast at the nice natural park, and play at the play ground. As per Vivian told me that Mei Mei is such a cute and pretty girl, and she would be photogenic, and yes, when I first saw her, I think she would be way easy to find the nice angle to have photographing, cute and energetic…
After the breakfast, I started to bring out my camera and play around the setting to match the ambient light as it was in garden and day light, and quite sunny that morning, with 50mm prime lens would be pretty nice. At the beginning, Mei Mei was a little bit shy when facing the camera, and during that time I just walk around the play ground and let her to have fun at the play ground, and I was just keep snapping the candid of her during she was playing.
Min had prepared some of the accessories and dress for the photo session and it was pretty nice, especially the bear that Mei Mei usually hugs around, she was so sweet and happy when hugging her bear and introduce this “dearest friend” to us. Well, children are not like a professional model, they don’t purposely pose for you but when they purposely pose to you also, it would not nice and ruin the whole picture…but, in the other way round, they are perfect candid model, as they just like the little angels, the reaction and response they give are truly from their heart, and they won’t cheat on their face. So, in order to make the whole session done successfully, Min and Vivian tried to keep talking to her, teasing her and showing her some funny pose to make her fun and she really follows the way they were showing, and my shutter was keep on releasing that time and surprisingly I can snap until the whole 8GBytes was fully occupied. What I can say for the whole session, the scenes I snapped are mostly candid. Of cause, the whole session was not only photograph on her, as they came in family, so I may include some shots with her family members, during her brothers playing with her in the play ground, Min and her while preparing for the photo shooting, and whole family photo as well.
The whole morning session was passing way fast, and of cause, the post process is another session to begin, during the process to filter and choosing the photo, it has a difficulty for me to choose as quite a number of shots and pretty nice in composition and suddenly I have lost in the question of “which one is the best to choose?”… And by the way, the post process can go fast as because children’s portrait is way easy to process, because they have a healthy and pretty smooth skin and the skin tone, and less process needed, plus for this time most of the shots are candid and the composition is way nice to bring out the feel…
